If you are fortunate enough to own a business in a high-traffic area, outdoor display products can provide you with the opportunity to promote your wares on a larger and louder scale. 

However, there can often be confusion about what information to include on these display stands and outdoor banners, and repeating the same graphics that you’ve included on indoor displays might not always work.

Here are a couple of considerations worth making when creating outdoor display graphics:

Text
Text is a very important element of an outdoor display and is often the easiest to get wrong. Less is certainly more due to the amount of people walking past the display – many of which will be in a rush to get somewhere. This means they do not have the time to absorb a lot of information, so ensure that the text is short and simple, using a clear and legible font.

Colour
Unlike their traditional indoor counterparts, outdoor displays often have to compete with busy and often distracting backgrounds. A pull up banner stand might be in front of a graffiti-stained wall, a flag would be seen in front of a blue sky and an A frame stand could be seen in a green field. Your choice of colour must enable the display to stand out and not merge into its surroundings.

As discussed earlier, text needs to be kept to a minimum. Fortunately, pictures truly can speak a thousand words – just be absolutely certain that it contains no impurities and that the resolution is big enough, as these kinds of discrepancies will be instantly recognisable on a stand that is 2.5 metres high.

Call to action
As mentioned previously, people passing by your display can often be in a rush, meaning that a clear and succinct call for action is needed. If your intention is for new customers to visit your shop or website or to give you call, you must ensure that it is both clear and memorable.

Next time you see an outdoor advertisement, observe it closer and decide on whether their message is clear and easy to remember. Ask yourself: would you give this company your custom?
